Since the armed conflict began in Ukraine, countless people have fled their homeland, some of whom have come to Germany. The refugees arriving on a daily basis are mainly women and children seeking protection and refuge, including those coming to the Bavarian state capital.

"In these challenging times, it is extremely important that we in Munich send a sign of welcome and solidarity to the families, some of whom are severely traumatised, especially children and young people who have lost their social environment and have had to bear the brunt of this conflict,” says Verena Dietl, mayor and chair of the supervisory board at Hellabrunn Zoo. "I am therefore very pleased that Hellabrunn Zoo is offering the refugees affected a little distraction and a few hours of relief in our beautiful zoo."

Zoo director Rasem Baban adds: "It's a matter close to our hearts at Hellabrunn to open our doors to the many people affected. We warmly welcome our Ukrainian guests to Hellabrunn Zoo.”

To ensure smooth entry to the zoo for our Ukrainian guests, Hellabrunn asks that the following requirements be observed:

  • All Ukrainian citizens must identify themselves with a valid Ukrainian passport, ID card or child passport. Alternatively, proof of arrival/registration issued by the municipal immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) is also accepted as proof of entitlement.
  • Please note that Ukrainian persons aged 14 and over must present proof of vaccination,  recovery or an official negative Covid-test (3G rule) for entry to the zoo, in accordance with the current Covid-19 restriction guidelines. Self-tests can not be accepted.
